Hello! My name is Macey but some people call me Penworthy. Thanks for coming by! I blog about Sherlock, The Lorax (especially a fellow called the Once-Ler), South Park, MLP, Supernatural, Homestuck, Glee, Doctor Who, Marble Hornets/The Slenderverse, Good Omens, feminism, and my random flailings of thoughts. I am thirteen years old. You might also see some fanfic/fandom stuff, or boxes that have flowers in them. If you decide to stay, thanks for the follow! If not, so long and thanks for all the fish.

Sherlock, Series One.
While I admit that my Ilustration instructor would probably have a fit (then again he kinda does that at a lot of things we show him) if he saw this, but I think you’re really onto something, and I personally love it. I just think you can push it a little more. O3O
Haha yeah, I should expect your illustration prof to have a fit; I think I did too. I didn’t do much deconstructing or really thinking about the composition of this one, it just sort of popped into my head like this (pictures usually pop into my head but the busier ones usually get reworked into something manageable by the time pencil hits paper; not so for this one). I just have too many Sherlock feelings to successfully contain them within a well-composed illustration that doesn’t sear off someone’s retinas.
What do you mean by ”push it a little more?” Are you only referring to composition or…?
Oh man, I can imagine what you mean about pictures popping into your head. =w= It’s more or less like that for me too. Hahah, actually the same Illustration instructor threw us a good quote, (forgot who by…) “The first 5 seconds you’re making art. The rest of the time is you trying to fix it.” =w= Anyhow, blargh, first of all sorry for my vague comment, I realized much later that I should have been a little clearer or just go ahead and give a critique even IDK. But I was thinking mostly about the colors when I said, “you can push it more” or specifically the reds.
Um, ok, let’s start from the top, I think you’ve done a good job with the arrangement of things, there are probably ways that you can make that better but I can’t think of any suggestions at this moment. The thing I wanted to point out is that I think the concept/composition gets lost because of the contrast between the colors/values. —-ok actually, I think I’ve found a better way to explain what’s mainly bothering me about this. When I cover up the bottom half with my hand the top half with Sherlock is pretty darn awesome, I love the color balance and composition of that. And then look at the bottom bit separately, I don’t actually think it’s bad, just kind of busy. While I realize that could be your intention there, the thing is, as a whole you would want the top and bottom to go together so I felt you could have pushed that more. I thought that if you added more of that lovely reflected red light you have on Sherlock it would really work out better. Just…more of that. On the left side of this whole thing, which would also turn the top right bit with the London skyline into more of a focal point which would be really interesting. OwO
But yeah, those are really just my personal thoughts on this. Take what you will from that. =w=
